Legacy Reflection: Saja

Here we go again, friends.

Today brings another Legacy Reflection. I wasn’t sure whether to continue the series now or wait, but once I revisited Jas in my last entry, it felt wrong to move on without giving equal space to his mirror, Saja. These two characters were created together, shaped together, and exist as a kind of yin and yang within my old stories. Separating them would be an injustice. Their connection is just too symbolic of my inner struggles.

Jas began as my mask, my initials turned into a heroic male ideal. He represented everything I believed I had to be: noble, honorable, self-sacrificing, strong. I wrote him from the shadow, projecting what I believed I needed to be. Saja, however, was something else entirely. She was my initials reversed, with an added “a” to soften it into a feminine name. She began as a literal shadow ejected from Jas’ mind. Later, I reworked her into his twin sister, born alongside him but exiled for being “dangerous.” She was written as cruel, ruthless, and merciless. She was a threat that had to be locked away.

Looking back at this now, the symbolism here is overwhelming. I had no idea that I was writing my own internal battle. I’m not Saja, but she was my shadow’s fear. I’m not evil or dangerous. I grieve, I don’t hate. I was the forbidden woman to my shadow, famed through the lens of my religious upbringing, family expectations, social pressures, and the terror of being seen. It was easier for my shadow to make her a villain than to admit she was me.

With that context, here she is, exactly as I wrote her all those years ago.

The White Witch

Race: First
Sex: Female
Age: Appears to be in early 20’s
Height: 5’8″ (1.75m)
Hair: White
Eyes: Black
Skin: White

Father: Meteoro, God of Falling Rocks
Mother: Jasmin, Queen and Goddess of the Realm of Nightmares and Goddess of Law and Blind Justice
Twin Brother: Jas, God of Truth and the Mind
Adoptive Father: King James, Immortal Ruler of England on Kenos

Appearance:
Saja’s skin and hair are pure white, while her eyes are as black as the night. She often wears a skin-tight black leather outfit.

Personality:
Saja is evil and cruel to the core. Mercy and compassion are completely foreign to her. She hates her family most out of everyone. She believes she has been abandoned and exiled to Kenos, in favor of her twin brother, and nothing could convince her differently. The only person she has slight bit of respect for is her adoptive father, King James, who raised her.

Powers:
Telepathy: With her telepathy, she can read minds and communicate telepathically. On Kenos, this power is limited to be more empathy than full telepathy. Her empathy, though, would be strong enough to sense intentions, lies, and the like.

Telepathic Command: Using her telepathy, she can force others to do what she says. On Kenos, this power just makes people a little more suggestible.

Fear Aura: There is an aura of fear that surrounds Saja. It would typically make weak willed people run in fear. On Kenos, this power is greatly diminished, so that people will feel uncomfortable or afraid in her presence, but not necessarily overpowering fear.

Mist Form: Saja is able to change her body and equipment to a white mist, able to move at will, without need for air. This power is lessened on Kenos, so that she can become almost ghost-like, but cannot move in ways she couldn’t normally.

Background:
Saja was born on Starron, holding the heel of her twin brother Jas. Even in the womb, she was fighting with her brother. After she was born, though, her mother, Jasmin, felt it would be best to get rid of Saja. Not wanting to kill her, though, she gave Saja to Isabel to take to someplace safe, where she could never be a danger to her family or the rest of the First.

Isabel took Saja away from Starron, taking her to a world stuck outside of time and space, Kenos. She gave Saja to the Immortal King of England, King James. James used to be a Dexter First known for being able to bring order to situations that were completely out of control. While he no longer had his First abilities, Isabel thought his strength of character would be ideal to raise Saja, who would be extremely difficult to handle. Isabel told James the truth about Saja, her family, and why she was being sent there. He agreed to raise her with a firm hand.

Isabel left Kenos, leaving James and Saja trapped on Kenos. James had changed in his centuries of being trapped, almost mortal, on Kenos. He raised Saja with knowledge of her family, and told her that she had been banished by her mother in favor of her twin brother. James didn’t restrain her, but used her unique abilities to help him keep his order in England and the colonies. Eventually, Saja became known and universally feared as King James’ white witch and assassin. No one knew that she was raised as his daughter, only that she was very important to the king, and very dangerous to the king’s enemies.

The White Witch was my villain, but she was never truly evil. She was the part of me that my shadow was terrified of. It was the feminine energy I wasn’t allowed to claim. It was the identity that my shadow had to exile “for everyone’s safety.” She was the girl who had to be locked away because my shadow didn’t yet understand that she was me.

Thank you for exploring these echoes of my past with me.

Until next time, friends.
